Could it be that xbox was designed to not be pingable. Someone with xbox surely can advise.

i do have a reallllly bad memory but i am sure i have pinged it before from my old xp computer, i have now got the xbox as an extender on media centre, but i am using ethernet. i want to do it wireless. if it works now but not on wireless could it be that i need to config router or something on the wireless setting on pc. maybe a port that needs opening? thanks for your help, let pray someone with an xbox comes across this thread!

EDIT: when pingin the xbox ip from the router i get a fail, what does this mean and how can i fix this?

Is there anyway you can prove the IP is what you "think" it is in your earlier post? How did you know that it's that IP? Was the xbox plugged into the router directly?

The xbox as most wifi-able devices should be able to pick up the wifi SSID from your router. Make sure this is the case.

You said your laptop was wirelessly connected to the router, this is wired diagram.

To my knowledge the Xbox 360 does not accept ping requests...

I have a had the same issue with my wireless laptop, I have tried about everything I could think of.. and still unable to have it share my media... The only way I could make mine work was to connect my laptop to the switch the Xbox 360 is connected to..

It is most likely to do with the router itself.. You could look at the configurations of it...

Since I am still unable to share my media to my Xbox 360..I just gave up on it...

But this is xbox, it's Microsoft's baby....i can understand about not allowing to be pinged, but not able to connect and share stuff (or whatever else you can do with such a device), come on!

I know!! lol.. It has me stumped...But I really don't think it is Windows 7 fault..Had Vista on the same laptop and I remember I also could not share my media to the Xbox 360.. My guess it is the router..Becase if I just connect the laptop to the switch, and the switch is connected to the router it works..

We need to get Microsoft to spell out that xbox is designed not to be pingable. If they do that, this thread is solved, and we can talk about Wii.
