my xbox is connected via ethernet to my router, my laptop is wireless to that router, and when i try to find the xbox on the network you cant see it and WMC doesn't pick it up so i cant add it as an extender. but if i run my laptop via ethernt a ind it and set up a WMC extender so now what im asking is not what the thread originally said. i need to find out why my pc only finds the xbox and talks when it is hard wired, if it works like that, why not wireless? is there something i have overlooked. thanks for coming back to try and solve this, it is really bothering me.
Destination host unreachable.
it means u've'nt selected the correct path ...
what you need to do is u need to select the correct device before you start working on that...
u need to select and say k from the devices available otherwise you cannot work on that...
yes when on ethernet i get request timed out when i ping the xbox but that is the norm i believe. i get a different message when on wireless
ps madhavi, i dont no what that means lol sorry
Destination host unreachable means just that. From his laptop to the xbox, ping data are going from his laptop, to the router, and the router then decides where to send the ping request to. If the router doesn't know where the xbox is (doesn't mean the xbox is directly connected to the router that the router know it's there) then data stops transmitting. Routers uses MAC addresses amongst other things to determine what and where a device is on the network. If the router hasn't leaned of the xbox's MAC address, as far as it's concerns the xbox is not on the network. When you then ping the xbox, you get a reply from the router telling you destination unreachable.
impressive, and now your going to tell me the really easy way to fix this right? :P
What is this? yes you can ping the xbox, if it's ethernet connected to the router or no you cannot? lol.
If xbox was made to not accept ping request, it doesn't matter how you connect it to router, you can't ping it.
I didn't design the xbox, and no one confirm 100% if it's possible. Maybe call Microsoft and get the answer straight from the horse's mouth. Then come back for more talk.
lol im sorry, we are getting are wires crossed here. when my pc is connected to the router via ethernet i can ping the xbox and get request timed out. when i am on wireless i ping and get destination host unreachable. but even though on ethernet i get request timed out, i can still see the xbox and connect to it with windows media centre, when im on wireless i cant see the xbox and i cant connect with media cantre.
Well, whether it's timed out or host not reachable, either way you have epic ping failure. But when you see that W7 can detect xbox through the network AND yet you cannot ping it's 100% correct IP address, you know Microsoft is not your friend.
