    Comcast, And Downloading Limit.

    Hello,

Guess my son was going wild with the downloading stuff, and Comcast called to complain, and tell me, in no uncertain terms, that their limit is 250 GB per month.
"Or else". Of course, they have no application that would enable one to monitor the usage, although I did find some on the web that do it.

Hard to understand how they can insist on a limit if they provide no way to monitor it ? Actually, about 8 GB a day doesn't really sound, to me, as all that much if the user does a lot of downloading.

Anyway, I tried to find out, but calling them for straight answers is hopeless.
Anybody have any idea what Verizon Fiber Optic home usage limit is, or if there is actually one ? Is it enforced, etc. ? (live outside of Boston)

    Thanks,
    Bob

not sure about the FiOS limits, but i do know that comcast is currently in court over the monthly limits and not providing a way to monitor it. right now it isn't looking to good for them so hopefully things will change soon on that front.

Personally, I wont use an ISP that limits or throttles my usage.. Currently I pay @50.00 USD for a 40mb line with no limits on how much I download and they dont throttle my signal, so I am satisfied... My ISP is Brighthouse...

On a side note, ISPs are legally not suppose to throttle or limit p2p traffic. However there are several who still do, while completely denying it. Comcast happens to be one of these ISPs, there has been some confrimations from techs stating Comcast uses a system called Sandvine. It essentially disconnects you by flagged p2p traffic, once you're connected to someone else in the swarm.

Be sure to double check what he is downloading, and how - especially if the account is in your name.

My personal opinion for Comcast internet has always been poor.

I don't use Comcast personally, but to me 8GB a day of downloading on average seems pretty darn heavy. I'm also not a big fan of download limits either. I think the ISP's need to more to a usage based pricing models if they want to use limits. Thus, your bill would fluctuate based on usage. Some months you may save some cash, and other months you may pay a bit more.
