What Exactly is a Tunnel Adapter

I have been seeing these tunnel adapters showing up when I do an IPCONFIG command for years now, and today I am wondering what they are. What is there purpose? What do they?

Try this: Anyone know what "Tunnel Adapters" are in ipconfig? - Vista Forums

Google will be your friend, in this case. There are plenty of links that will show you how to remove it, if you so wish.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi

Tunneling is how you do secure (encrypted) communications across an
untrusted network (the Internet). Those look like
    IPv6 tunneling.
