Can't find one specific router

I'm completely new to this forum, but here's my problem:

My girlfriends laptop can't find our router. It can find the neighbours, just specifically not ours. The router must be fine, becouse I'm surfin trough it right now. Also other people can find and connect without any problems. The OS is windows 7. She used to be able to connect but recently the network is undetected.

I know absolutely nothing about networks, so help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600

Hi Elduderino. Welcome to SevenForms.:)

From MS:

  • If your computer has a wireless network adapter, Windows will automatically detect wireless networks that are nearby. To see a list of wireless networks that Windows has detected, click the Start button , and then click Connect to. If Windows does not detect a network that you think is in range of your computer, open Help and Support and search for "Troubleshoot problems finding wireless networks."
  • If the problem began after you installed new software, check your connection settings to see if they have been changed.
    1. Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections.
    2. Right-click the connection, and then click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Hope this helps.:)

Unfortunatly this hasn't helped, but thanks for the fast reply.

The network does not appear in the list of available networks, and the troubleshoot system says I haven't selected one. This is very strange because many other people can see the network except for her laptop.
Because of the problem I also did a clean reinstall of windows 7, in case some of the default settings were altered that I don't know of, but it hasn't fixed the problem

Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit

Could it be the fact that your gf's wireless adapter isn't compatible with the security option of the network? But's this is weird indeed, if here system and wireless card is fine, there is no reason for her system not to detect your wifi.

Windows 7 Home Premium

Hi El Duderino,

I have exactly the same problem - my desktop cannot detect my wireless network, even though it can detect the neighbour's. My laptop (running Vista) placed next to the desktop can detect and connect fine, as can my iPhone. It did work when I first installed Windows 7, and the wireless network settings haven't been changed at all, so I'm really confused.

Has anyone got any ideas?

The way I solved my problem was just to reset the router by unplugging it for like 10 seconds. Maybe it will work for you too...

Still don't know what the problem might have been, I'm just glad everything works

Windows 7 Pro x64,

I had same issue. I have solved it by renaming SSID in my router.
