wifi weirdness

To do IPconfg...

you actually have to run the Comman prompt first then type in: ipconfig /all

So go to RUN: type cmd

then window pops up. looks black, then you type ipconfig /all

if you just type ipconfig in the run, then once ipconfig is excuted and complete, it shuts off, tht is what you are experancing.

Don't want to sound like I'm trying to rain on your parade, but that statement ain't necessarily so. At least not in Aussie land. Might be the case if you buy one from a PC retailer, but if you get one in a bundled package deal of phone/internet, like I did from Telstra in Aussie, then the wireless router/nodem comes with a pre-installed security code.

Re general theme of this topic, I have a Netgear USB wireless dongle, and when I try to connect it to my ADSL2 wireless router/modem using OS WinXP Home, I get all sorts of problems. You can toss a coin on any given occasion as to whether it will connect or nor. Sometimes a re-boot fixes it. Other times I have to re-enter the security password.

However, if I use the same dongle on the same PC but run it on Win7 OS, it connects first time every time. So go figure, eh! My son's a PC techo and when I told him it worked flawless on Win7 he commented: "About time Microsoft got their act together! Only took them about 4 versions of Windows."

sorry should have specified, if you bought a regular router in a store, like a D link, Linksys Cisco, by ddefault here in america its Open... and set to DHCP...

I know that when you get routers ASDLmodems with wireless, they have preset wireles configuration from the factory and there is a sticker underneath he box itself.

It just depends on where the router comes from who makes it.

The ones that i see open most of the time is the oens coming from bestbuy, like netgear, linksys, d link

I sure hope that he's not counting Windows ME as a Version. That is more like a disaster!

This is most likely a driver problem. There are 122 different models of the HP G60 so I would need the entire model number of your HP G60 in order to find the correct drivers. There are quite a few similar complaints around the internet about this same Notebook having problems getting online.

I would try the drivers on the HP page as this is most likely a driver problem.

There is quite a selection of network drivers there for your HP G60 there, I have no idea which one would be right but it might be worth looking into. I have no idea which network adaptor you are using.

Select 32 or 64 bit.

Sounds like your Belkin router isn't working right. I don't see the exact model number anywhere but a reset or a firmware update might make it work better. Could be a security problem but WAP2 should work for you as long as you set up a connection password.

You should be able to access the Belkin control panel by typing in 192.168.2.1 into browser URL. Admin for password usually works of there isn't one.
