"Problem with the driver for Wireless Adapter"

I have an ASUS G51VX with Windows 7 64-bit. All has been fine with my internet connection, except for a few drops here and there, but all in all it has been tolerable. When I went to bed last night it worked, when I woke up, it didn't. When I troubleshoot I get the message, "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection Adapter", to which Windows cannot fix. I get this same error message, respectively, for both wired and wireless connections. After troubleshooting without success, I decided to try and do a system restore. In the system restore panel I noticed that there had a "Critical System Update" performed at 3 in the morning, I assumed this is where my problem came from. So I restored it to the previous night, before the update, only to be greeted with the same message. I am only connected with "Limited Access". The network adapters I have are an Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN and a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both of them, still no success. There are no exclamation marks or red x's next to either of them. Also, I'm running off a University's wireless/wired internet, and all other devices are working, so the router is out of the question. What's even weirder is when I open a cmd window and enter ipconfig /all , I get:

My Wireless LAN adapter and Ethernet adapter don't even show up and I have no idea what all the Tunnel adapter stuff means. I'm usually pretty good with computers but this stuff is beyond me right now, so any help to my problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Try the commands below, although I'm not sure why you have so many teredo tunnels which is for IPv6 functionality.

This may work better if you just reset your router either by pushing the reset button for 30 seconds or just unplugging the router for five minutes then going through the standard set up procedure again. Although resetting the router may not be possible at the University.

Clear DNS Cache: ipconfig /flushdns

Release All IP Address Connections: ipconfig /release

Renew All IP Address Connections: ipconfig /renew

Those IP details don't look good i'm afraid. You don't even have wireless adapter showing. I cannot imagine how you said in your Device Manager that everything looked fine, with that ipconfig /all details. Can you screenshot your device manager?

Btw chev, he has no LAN or wireless adapter showing in his ipconfigs. So those commands i don't think will work at all.

Also go into your network connections and screenshot that. Should look similar to this.

Welcome to Seven Forums!

Looks like you got a *whole lot* of adapters there. Somebody is very confused I'd say.

You mentioned that you have both wired and wireless connections. Does this by chance mean you have both connection active at the same time? That can and does cause problems for Windows, it gets really confused if it sees two default gateways example.

I see none of your real adapters in the list as you've said. At this point do you have any connectivity at all? What shows up in the list when you go to Network And Sharing Center => Change Adapter Settings? There should only be two: The Intel wireless and Realtek wired. Also check the device Manager under Control Panel and see what show up under Network Adapters.

Some how you have way too many tunnel adapters in there. Most likely added when you tried uninstalling and re-installing the real adapters. I'm betting you did that more than once.

You need to get to a clean state somehow. Uninstall what you can. Reboot and see what shows up. Don't add anything, let Windows detect it. Also take a look and see if there are any updated drivers for the Intel Wireless as well as the Realtek wired.

I flushed and it successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.
When I tried to release I get, "An error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1: The system cannot find the file specified. The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"

Like I said, the router is out of the question, and this computer, and everyone elses' are working fine.
As to why I have so many tunnel adapters, your guess is as good as mine.

We will see about that Aem. At the moment he doesn't have much to lose by doing a thirty second command to flush the DNS.

That's a good start. At least the hardware is there and the wireless appears to be connected to something.

What does the ipconfig /all look like right now?

Looks normal to me. I would try the DNS flush to clear out those bogus entries. .
