Connection from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7

Hi.

One thing before we start: I'm totally not professional in networking stuff.

Ok, so i have one stationary computer that i am currently writing this on, with Windows 7 on. I have an laptop too, which has Windows XP installed. Basically i want to have the laptop to connect and use this computer internet.
I found an old Compaq that looked like it could do the job, so i launched it up and messed with an ethernet cable. I figurated out that i could connect between those two computers, so i did it. At the back of the WIN7 computer, there is an input for that cable. I plugged it in. I looked over to the WINXP computer, only to see that there werent any input for that cable. I looked to the side, and i found this old card, something with "Compaq 10/100 PC Card". Basically you put it in the laptop, and then connect a cable to it, and to that cable you can connect the ethernet cable. I plugged everything in and there was a response in the WINXP computer. Some icon appears at the right down area, it seems to be working, it says that it's "getting networkaddress". After a while a message yells at me that it has "Limited or no connection" to the local area network. I mean, that card seems to be working, but for some reason it wont just connect.
So now i'm wondering; is it the Windows 7 (i believe so) fault or Windows XP's? Both computers have same Workgroup name ("WORKGROUP"), I have disabled homegroup (which i don't know anything about) in windows 7, but still nothing.

Thank you.

EDIT: Seems like i fixed it. If someone else is having the same problems, make sure you have the Local Area Network on the Windows 7 computer enabled, in my case i had it disabled. Also go into the Network and sharing options, click on your Internet connection (right panel, it is under the text "Access type: Internet"), click the page "Sharing", then tick both boxes.

Welcome to the forum pspleo,

This tutorial might help you to share that connection between your Win 7 machine and XP. At least I think that is what you are trying to do here.
