Network Cable Unplugged error: cable is plugged in
Hello,
Since last night, my LAN connection has been giving me the error "Network cable unplugged." I have tried swapping the cable with another, swapping the ports on the router, restarting the router, power cycling the router, turning off the router and my computer and then turning them back on, and nothing has worked.
My computer has two network connections: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller and a Hamachi network, which the computer is using (but not getting Internet on, of course) - I assume because it isn't giving a network cable unplugged error. This is the network controller that comes on my Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P motherboard, and it has the latest driver from the manufacturer's site (7.6.820.2009). In the device manager, it says that the device is working properly. There is a green light under the ethernet cable on the router, but not where it attaches to the motherboard (I can't remember if there was one before or not, though).
The Realtek Diagnostics Tool says the following:
IP Address 0.0.0.0
Connection NAme: Local Area Network
Link Status: Disconnected
It has a tab for Cable diagnostics, which says the following (Pair/Length/Status):
1-2 0 Normal
3-6 115 Normal
4-5 0 Normal
7-8 191 Short
When I run diagnostics, Register, Mac Loopback, PHY Loopback, IRQ, and FIFO all pass.
Here is what ipconfig/all says:
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . :
Node type . . . . .: Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled . . . . . : No
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . . . . .:
Description . . . . .: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Physical Address . . . . . : 00-24-1d-1d-eb-b6
DHCP yes, Autoconfig Yes
Then it has the Hamachi connection, a Tunnel adapter isatap.{numbers}, another Tunnel adapter isatap.{different numbers}, Tunnel Adapter LAN *9. and Tunnel adapter 6T04 Adapter.
I've tried plugging the ethernet cable into another computer instead of the router to see if it detects an Unknown Network, but it still says unplugged.
Running the Windows 7 Diagnostics asks me if it's plugged in, I click next step, and that's all it offers.
It was working yesterday. It might have updated. If not, the only thing I can think of that changed on our network (which admittedly consists of a lot of things at the moment: two smart phones, a macbook, two laptops, three desktops - one of them being the one having the problem - a Nintendo DS, and two Wiis) is that we just hooked up one of the Wiis to Nintendo's WiFi Center yesterday for the first time.
On the router's home page, it views my computer's status as "offline." I checked its dedicated IP and made sure none of the others overlapped, and they don't. The computer in question cannot access the router, which is a 2wire Gateway.
Oof, any ideas?
