New Dell on W2k p/p net...

Have a peer-2-peer W2k net w/5 machines and I'm adding a new Dell to the mix. It's running W7HmPre v6.1 7600, connecting to the net wireless thru a Linksys WRT54G router. I can get to the WEB, but not my intranet.

I tried setting up a homegroup so I can access a shared printer (W2kSP4) with no success. Can't see anything or anyone. Should I setup as Home Network or Work Network? Not needing to sharing anything on this machine and no current plans to leave this network. Just need to see the rest of my net.

I have over 20 years w/PC but skipped 2 OS's with this machine... big leap. Talk to me...

    Thanks...

Piece of cake. Homegroup is for win 7 only networks. For mixed networks "workgroup" both offers easier connectivity and fasted downloads, but you dont need a password if you dont want it.

Im sure you can change it but if you need help let us know.

Thanks Zig... Still learning this new OS. So, where is the workgroup configured in 7. My firewall is saying I'm have an active home or work (private) network and it's name is the same as the rest of my net. But can't see the W7 machine from any of my other machines. Guidance please...

Still looking for some help here. Can't see my W7 machine from other on the network, or the other way either. Could it be a configuration issue for the wireless card?

    edit: workgroup is correct
edit: connected via cable and disabled wireless connection, still not able to see other machines. Grrrrrrr...

Have no clue what the issues was, but can now see my other machines... both ways.

I will say that I did see that there was an upgrade on the firmware of the router (1.02.7.011). After that was performed, I shut down the W7 machine... completely. On the reboot all is good.

Thanks for the brief assistance zigzag3143... Your guidance is duly noted. Cheers...
