random dropping of workgroup

I have an an htpc in my living room and do my encoding on my main rig and will transfer over the lan via gb switch. The problem is that between my win 7 x64 and htpc win 7 x86 i will transfer one maybe two files over then the connection will drop but will still be accessible to my xp netbook and still viewable to my main rig. after this happens i will have to reset the nic on my htpc and it will work again. I have trolled the troubleshooting and have lowered the security and enabled sharing between the two comps ( proven by win xp being able to access the shares). The two win 7 machines only have win firewall and both use security essentials. any ideas? thanks

actually i was trying other seemingly tasks as renaming a file or just browsing and the connection drops, so its not just a large file transfer. It was working fine a month or so ago, cant pinpoint a program as the culprit, maybe ultraVNC? thanks for your help

I'd like to suggest taking a look at your Network adapter. Start -> dev manager -> network adapter. Double click, open her up and then under "advanced", take a look at "Link Speed & Duplex".

If this is set to auto-negotiation, try re-setting it to 10 or 100mbps Full Duplex, re-start your computer and see if the problem persists.

For whatever reason, auto-negotiation features in some network cards poor. Also, if you haven't, undo the reserved ip (static) that you set up for you Windows 7 box before you change this network card setting.
