UK SKY Broadband - any views

    Hi all
in the UK is the SKY broadband service worth considering compared with other providers -- Speed, Cost, availability / reliability.

Anybody using it -- please no comments such as I don't like BSKYB or views on Mr Murdoch but purely on your experience of using it and its cost etc compared with the others.

I've had my contract in the UK (Manchester) extended for another 9 months and instead of staying 3 - 4 nights a week in a Hotel have got on offer of a decent City Centre flat -- so I'm looking at decent Internet, TV and other deals.

    Cheers

Personally I prefer Sky to Virgin/TalkTalk/BT(what a load of crap). But, the only problem is you can only get the speed the cable is capable of. In my case around 3mb so, no point having premium broadband!

One other thing I think I phoned Sky once or twice after 3 years with them whereas : BT 48 times in 12 months :Talk Talk too often and Virgin I paid them £120 to get 'em out of my home.

Who am I with now. Sky 2mb service and am no longer interested in having a faster crappier service.

    Hi there
2 - 3 MB would be fine -- I can always RDP to my home server if I need fast downloads in any case.

I'm not a huge downloader - most of the stuff I've got from technet I've already downloaded.

I can't see myself downloading loads of video / films etc anyway. Email, decent browsing and a decent RDP connection to my home server

For Multimedia streaming (music) this is quite fast enough - I can remotely logon to it and that has a decent UPLOAD speed from home so I'll be able to stream music around the flat.

I've heard bad things about Virgin in the UK and BT is well known as B/S or Bovine Telecom so I won't use them.

Looks like SKY is the cheapest package out there -- at least for the period I need it - and this block of flats doesn't have probs with a Sky dish somewhere either.

    Cheers
