Static IP blocks network sharing

I have been searching to find a solution to this problem and I have found a lot people with similar problems but no solution.

Dynamic IP everything works. Three different routers D-Link, Zyxel and Planet tested.
Four PC's on the network including Mac-Leopard

Static IP everything works EXCEPT network sharing. The PC's on the network never appears and the other PC's can no longer see the Windows7 PC.
I can ping all the PC's from the Windows7 machine and vice versa.
All firewalls turned off. Tried to play around with disabling IPV6 and other settings to no avail. Tried disabling DHCP in all the tested routers, still no change.

If this is a major flaw in Windows 7 I think this is serious.

I and lots of setups needs static IP to enable portforwarding for various programs.

On the w7, is File and Printer sharing turned on?

Are you having issue connecting to W7 share or to a non-W7 share?

Nothing in the settings of file/printer sharing is changed when I switch to static IP.

With dynamic IP settings I have full connectivity between three XP pc's and one Mac-Leopard. With static IP they all disappear!

After switching to static IP I have internet access but no network sharing.

So when you changed to static IP, the shares disappear off your W7 machine? Is this mapped shares?

No, they are all standard shares (HDD partitions) set up through XP default file sharing.
The shares not only disappears from the Windows7 machine, the Windows7 shares also disappears from the other workstations.

What IP Addresses are you using? What Gateway addresses are you using?

IPv4 Try:

PC1 : 10.1.1.1/24
PC2 : 10.1.1.2/24
PC3 : 10.1.1.3/24
PC4 : 10.1.1.4/24
PC5 : 10.1.1.5/24
etc.

They should see each other and work.

Please note you will most likely not have internet access.

To gain internet access you will need to set your Router/Cable Modem/Firewall or whatever you have to have a static address too.

Router/Cable Modem/Firewall : 10.1.1.254/24

Then you can change all the machines with a static address to have a gateway address of 10.1.1.254. Let the machines get DNS from the 10.1.1.254 or you can set them static if you know what your ISPs DNS server addresses are or in some cases you can set the DNS to 10.1.1.254 and the Router/Cable Modem/Firewall will forward your requests.

Sorry, don't understand what you mean with 10.1.1.1slash?24!

IP addresses 10.1.1.1 is outside the routers range.

To be able to use all my routers as backups I had to define the same ranges on all of them so DHCP is now from 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.100
IPV4
PC1 - 192.168.1.10
PC2 - 192.168.1.20
PC3 - 192.168.1.30
PC4(Mac) - 192.168.1.40

Gateway/Router 192.168.1.2
DNS 192.168.1.2 or OpenDNS 208.67.222.222

These setting works perfectly with 3 XP workstations and one Mac-Leopard
The PC I use for Windows 7 has an interchangable HD with XP, which I will use until I find Windows 7 usable.

Using dynamic IP I ran ipconfig and get 192.168.1.19 as IP(preferred) however setting this as static IP does not solve the problem. Regardless of static IP number still no network share but internet.

The /24 is CIDR block notation = 255.255.255.0

If you are using static addresses: 192.168.1.10/24 thru 192.168.1.30/24 and you have DHCP set to give addresses 192.168.1.1/24 thru 192.168.1.100/24 then you are overlaping IPs. I would change your DHCP to something outside the static range or change your static IPs not to overlap the DHCP range to: 192.168.1.110/24 thru 192.168.1.140/24. I would double check your router's DHCP and make sure it is not giving a /16 (255.255.0.0) subnet mask if it is that could be your problem.
