xp and 7 over crossover cable

I have 2 pc's, one with 7 and the oder with XP Pro SP3, they are connected with a crossover cable.

Form XP i can see the files in the 7 pc whitout problem,
but from 7 when i try to enter the XP machine, always ask for user and password.

I installed LLDT in XP, and the xp was visible in the network, but changin and trying to configure I cant see in the network, but is visible in the network map.

The firewall is disabled in both computers, have the same ip range, (IPv4), exists the same acount name/password in both pc, i can even rdp the xp in 7.
another weird isue is that i enable the automatic network discovery, save the configuration, and qhen i enter again, is disabled again.

I'm tired of messing with the config in both machines whithout a result. I dont know where the problen is. Thanks in advance.

I was wondering, you didn't say WHY you were using a crossover cable. A small switch would solve your problem.

This might be worth a try if you have group policy editor. Also make sure the time/date is correctly set on both machines and in bios.
