    homegroups help please

This homegroups is doing my head in, I have read all tutorials and search for an answer but to no avail and its driving me nuts, hopefully someone here can please, please help me.

I have my main computer plugged into a belkin router, a wireless laptop connected and another wireless computer upstairs connected. All are running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, I have had them all connected to each other in the past at one point or another but the homegroups keeps dissapearing from the wireless computers.

Any help would be much appriciated.

    Thanks in advance

Disappearing as in you can't see the other machines on the LAN?

Go down this guide and make sure all settings are correct.

Hi thanks for quick responce, i am trying to check in registry if ipv6 is enabled but -

"Note that sometimes the registry setting does not get updated even though you enable IPv6 via the GUI interface. So you can check the setting in the registry by going to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters

In the right pane, right-click on DisabledComponents and select Modify. Make sure the value is set to 0. If it’s set to anything else like FF, IPv6 was turned off."

In the right hand pane there is no Disabledcomponents to select, there are 3 values one of which is enableICSIPV6 reg_DWORD 0X00000001(1)

Yes that registry entry gets messed up from time to time and prevents Homegroup sharing from working correctly. That's why it's listed in the Homegroup walkthrough because it happens so often.

In local area connections properties both IPv6 & IPV4 are ticked but i have the option to install them but not uninstall does this mean I have to install them ?

When I click install it asks for type of network

    Client
    service
    protocol

    Any advice.

It sounds like IPv6 is working because you didn't see the disabled components.

Can you please check the time/date on both machines and in bios to make sure they are set correctly. If the time/date isn't correct and in sync on both machines it will cause problems such as you are describing.

Hi all, so heres where I'm @, last night got everything working fine, turned on today and no homegroup computers werew showing from any machine although all 3 machines were joined in a homegroup.
Unplugged and restarted router and all machines then showed each other, now from the laptop to upstairs all is working and vice versa but both wireless machines keep getting " windows cannot acccess main-pc name".

This is getting so complicated I am nearly giving up, could it be something to do with router/ipaddress etc.

The times are all the same checked in bios as well on all 3 machines.

    Cheers
