    Domain

sorry, im not sure where i should really post this thread

I have this problem when i'm trying to join a domain and really need some help, can anyone help me with this?

An active directory domain controller for the domain " " could not be contacted.

Ensure that the domain name is type correctly.

    Detail:
Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "":

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
    (error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs
Common causes of this error include the following:

    - The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by the AD DC at set intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:

    192.168.1.1

    - One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:

You cannot join a domain without know the password for a privileged account that is allowed to join machines to a domain that is on the domain. Further more, you'll need to be connecting to one of the DCs to do that.

That is what I was saying - your attempt to add the school's domain was trying t o go to what looks to be your router - you would need to have a valid connection to the school network in order to access the DC in order to join the domain.

Next, you'd need to have a username that has access privileges that allow you to join computers to the Domain.

Finally, you'd need to know the exact domain to join to - although your school domain may be {schoolname}.edu, your *actual* domain may be something like {prefix}.{schoolname}.edu - this type of information you'll need to get from the network administrators.

I doubt your school will let you join their domain as well. Computers joining domains are usually for PCs the admin has direct control over. Your home computer would not qualify.
