From what I could read about this problem, the XP drivers for the Atheros AR5007EG may work better than the Vista drivers. The built in Win 7 drivers aren't working for some reason so you need to use the ones from the site posted below.

Read this TechNet thread about how to use the cz Atheros download site, it's apparently very slow to show the driver download " you have to click and wait a good long time", they also discuss which drivers work best and how to get them.
    Atheros AR5007 windows 7 drivers

Get them from here. ATHEROS drivers for Microsoft Windows

I assume the download is extracted, and you see the.inf file in the folder.

Just update the driver by right-click on the device in Device Manager, Update driver and select Browsing ...

    Then browse to that folder.

If it's the correct driver, the system will install it.

    OK.

I have the Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter and I also have the Win 7 driver for that, supplied by MICROSOFT with WIN 7.

Go to Windows Update. Look over there in the left-hand pane and you be sure to check the option to have MS inform you of updates for all products. After that you run an Update.

    For your further edification,
go to this website: Windows 7 Drivers - Where to Download the Latest Windows 7 Drivers

There you will find a section for each manufacturer.

For example, in the ACER section there are links to Windows® 7 Upgrade Offer

    and to
    Acer Service & Support

    Still more info for you:
go to a command prompt (WIN | type cmd.exe| Enter key)
type following: getmac /v /fo list

This is going to list all of the wireless adapters on your computer.
this is will help you to make sure that you have the correct atheros model.

When finished viewing the listing then type: EXIT

    Just curious for future visitors...

What do you mean by reinstalled the router? Were you using some router company supplied connection software? Or?

I was using the supplied software from Belkin .it's a N+ wireless adapter.I connected it to the laptop via LAN and re-installed the router from fresh and used just letters as my password.used windows as config mgr. and it worked.
