Internet Connection Sharing - HELP NEEDED!

    Hi,

I'm a real newbie to the forums, and I know it's impolite to ask for help without giving it, but I hope to do so in the future.

OK - I recently purchased a netbook with Windows 7 Starter. However, Starter does NOT allow ICS i.e. there is no sharing tab anywhere.

I want to share an internet connection between my laptop (wireless internet) and my xbox 360 via LAN, but I cannot do this as I used to in XP/Vista.

Does anyone know how to solve this? (Possibly by 3rd party apps)?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi bobbyrobby,

Maybe try this? Get Internet Connection Sharing in Windows 7 Starter in One Easy Step - Windows 7 starter - Gizmodo

If not, here are some other Networking-related options for Windows 7 Starter: Networking in Windows 7 Starter

Let us know how it goes.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

Thanks very much for the reply, but I checked those sites out earlier with no success .

The first link just mentions setting up an adhoc network (temporary wireless) as opposed to sharing a wireless internet connection via LAN.

    The second link just states:

"Internet Connection Sharing. A computer running Windows 7 Starter can't use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to share its Internet connection with other computers on the network. With Windows 7 Starter, you must use a router to share an Internet connection among several computers. For more information, see Setting up a home network."

Sorry for being difficult, and thanks again for the help ...

Does Starter allow you to create an ad-hoc network for sharing? If so you could go with this for your internet sharing, however you might need to either get another wireless adapter for the primary internet connection OR use Cables. The ad-hoc wireless network will use the wireless adapter.

Edit: I just checked the SKU for Starter and no it does not allow for ad-hoc creation

The primary internet connection IS wireless, but the xbox 360 does not have a WLAN adapter, only a small ethernet cable which I used to connect to my wireless enabled PC and then share the internet connection. It worked perfectly, but Starter doesn't support this - this is different from adhoc networking.

    Thanks for the tip though!!!
