    Simultaneous connection to multiple users

I am running Windows 7 home premium x64. I have 2 computers in a LAN Workgroup. Is there a way to connect to both users on the other computer at the same time? Or alternatively, how do I disconnect from one user and connect to the other without rebooting?

What are you using for the remote connection? RDP, Team viewer?

I don't think there is a way to have 2 users on different machines log into the same user and see the same things. However, there are applications like UltraVNC that will allow one user to see what is on another users screen if that is what you are looking to do. Can you be a little more descriptive in what you want to do?

I'm really only transferring files - pictures etc to my wife's user, backups etc to my own. At present I have to reboot to change my mind. Its just Windows "workgroup" file sharing; I'm not trying to run anything on the other computer.

What you need is NAS or fileserver that you both can connect to at once. Then you don't need to have files 2 places. But if you have shared libraries on the wifes computer then there should be no problem with you connecting to this share from yours to move files.

"shared libraries" sounds like you're assuming Windows 7 on both computers and using a Homegroup. But we're just using the old Windows sharing and a Workgroup where I connect to a network place with a specific address / computer name. What I can't find a way to do is disconnect. Once I have chosen a user/folder on her computer Windows no longer offers a new connection to that computer. Any time I click on her computer in the Network pane it takes me to the opened folder.

No I don't assume that both computers are windows 7. I have more network drives attached on my laptop (win7) to my server (win xp) and don't have any problems what so ever to connect to these. What you need to make sure is that the username and password you use to logon to your computer is also present on the wife's computer - this way when you connect to the shared libraries on the wifes computer the computers will see this as the same use and give you access with out having to do any login and you can do this while the wife is logged on the her computer with her own user.

If you map a share it is given a letter eg X. You could use a command line to disconnect x.

In command line type as follow:

    c:\>net use x: /delete

where x: is the drive letter of the shared resource.

This is sure what I was looking for, but
    1. when I map the network I get a message saying "the following discovered devices can not be placed in the map", and it includes my wife's computer.
    2. the command line c:\>net use name: /delete returns "Windows cannot find 'c\>net'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

    Obviously I'm doing something wrong.

I meant to say don't type the C:\>, that was just the dos prompt.

Anyway to into the reg and see if there are any map drivers concern.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Map Network Drive
