Are you sure it was a router and that it wasnt a WAP? What model #???
..... Seriously? You'd like me to go back and remember each model number of each router I came across/configured with a default gateway address that wasn't 192.168.1.1? I'm sorry but that's just not going to happen.

I'm sorry I've had different experiences than you, but please stop insulting my intelligence. I have no reason to lie.

    Dude... why so defensive?

I'm only stated that in over 10 years... I've never had or worked with a Linksys router that used anything other than 192.168.1.1 as default IP.

So.... I merely asked if you were sure it wasnt a WAP... and if you knew what model#? That's IT!

I have reviewed each of my posts here and I see nothing that resembles an insult... I think you need to do the same and relax my friend.

I am relaxed. I'm not defensive. You're asking me to provide something I can't possibly provide. Had I known that one day my knowledge of which default gateway address are used in which hardware would be called into question today, I might have made a list

I'm not sure what the length of your employment in the industry has to do with this conversation, other than your experiences have been different. Have you even bothered to notice I'm not even in the U.S.? It's perfectly possible the routers manufactured outside of the U.S. may have different default settings (I'm not saying they do, just that's it's merely possible).

Regardless, we've hijacked the thread. I apologize. If you want to continue this discussion in private, that's fine.

Make sure that the modem is plugged into the WAN port of the router. Any PCs will simply plug into any available LAN port on that router.

A good idea once everything is pugged in would be to reboot each device in this order:
    1. Modem
    2. Router
    3. PC

Once you do that you should be able to enter the Linksys router configuration via your browser and 192.168.1.1..

Please advise as to your progress...
Thanks, still the same it's not working

It's most likely not going to work until you configure the router. Especially if your DSL service is run over PPPoE.

That being said, were you able to find out what the gateway address was?
