    Public or private

    Hi. I have a pc networked to a laptop, both running W7 ultimate. Pc is wired to the router and laptop is wireless. Everything was working OK until I installed samsung cell phone software and in trying to get it to work I followed some (bad) advice and deleted Teredo. I think this is something to do with ivp6. I restored ipv6 but can't get teredo to reappear. I can still connect to the internet on both but I can not access the laptop from the pc. I can access the pc from the laptop.

    As far as I can see they are both set tohome although the laptop has network discovery turned on but not the pc. I can't get it to stay on in the pc.

    Any ideas please?

    Thanks.

    Welcome!

    Have you tried a System Restore to get to a point before the changes?

    Thanks for the welcome. No, I suppose I can do. Just wondering if I was missing anything obvious and easily fixed. I've just noticed that on the pc the network is just identified as home while on the laptop it's Netgear which is my router.

    Hello, tmarsh;

    Just to let you know, after my home network was setup and working, I was never able to get the "Network Discovery" to stay on either, but there were no problems with access.

    Also, just a guess, but because the laptop is wireless, the wireless network is correctly identified as "Netgear". The wired network, that connects to the internet, should have been configured as a "Home" network because "Home" is the least secure and easiest to use for a home network.

    Since both of your computers are 7 Ultimate, you should be able to connect using the Windows 7 "HomeGroup" network and IPV6. Just make sure there is only one "HomeGroup" network, and that both computers have joined it. You might try leaving, removing, or deleting the laptop homegroup and rejoining the Desktop's HomeGroup. Also make sure the settings are the same for both in their respective "Advanced Network", ie using homegroup to control access, permissions, etc.

    You may find removing "HomeGroup" and disabling IPV6, and then setting up a "Workgroup" network easier?

    Cheers!

    You should reset your router which should get your IPv6 functionality back. If you are still having problems sharing check for this file "idstrore.sst" at the location below, that should fix the sharing problem.

    The fix seems to be Deleting the file idstore.sst under C:\windows\serviceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking

    Hi tmarsh,

    You may not want to do a System Restore, here are some other recovery options you may want to try: What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?.

    Here is more information about connecting your cell phone to your computer: Connect to Bluetooth and other wireless or network devices.
