Network Bug(? maybe) in build 7077 X-64

    Hi all.

    Hapy Easter etc.

Although I wasn't going to I couldn't resisit the temptation - downloaded build 7077 X-64 (thanks to Soligor and his Russian contacts). Download fine -- 90 mins approx -- plenty of seeders now.

Noticed though on Network Discovery I randomly See XP machines on the network but randomly don't see them either -- seems to be totally unpredictable when the machines are visible. (These machines are 100% logged on).

However there's absolutely no problem in "Manually connecting" using connect network drive and then specifying the actual UNC address such as via \\xpmachine_name\share_name

(Of course you have to know the share names if you connect like this. If you don't know the share name then you are totally screwed).

Doesn't matter whether Firewalls or on or off - same problem.

    Weird.

Machine is fine in build 7068 x-64. All networked (XP) machines always available

Looks like these later builds are doing things with Networks.

    Cheers

I have the same thing going on Jimbo.....I have 7077 x86 on one machine and 7077 x64 on another. I also have XP on the 32bit machine and am now noticing the same thing. 7068 worked fine but 7077 is not working automatically. I wonder if it is a bug? I just got it installed (the x64) and had to come to work. Let me know if you find a fix later in the day.

    Hi there
I'll have a look later -- probably on Saturday -- it's Good Friday today public holiday here.

I've got some really "Boring" relatives today and I've got an appointment I can't wiggle out of later. -- After I've got rid of them I'll be down in the "Boozer" so I won't be in any fit state to do much analysis.

From an intial look it doesn't seem to make any difference whether you use the same user id's , passwords, network names etc etc. Sometimes you see the wretched computers, sometimes you don't.

The XP machines all see the W7 ones without a problem (which is the exact reverse of what people were experiencing a few builds ago (7000, 7022 --- seems ages ago now).

    Cheers

Yea, it's discouraging. I had the wrong time on one machine so I thought that would fix it but....nope. It looks like a bug. I tried it between one machine on 7077 x86 and one on x64 and same thing. I would think they would have things like this worked out this close to RC1.

This is Microsoft putting in their "screw it up" bits in it. No, I'm joking lol :P

Fresh install here. Both of them. 2 machines one x86 and one x64. both 7077.

I just got home from work and cancelled both homegroups. I then set it up first on the x64 machine and joined from the x86 machine. That did it! I don't know what caused it but it must be some sort of bug.

Anyone reading this and having the same problem....just try switching the original homegroup machine to a different one. It worked here.

7068 had the same behavior for me, i just refresh the list if i needed access to XP and it reappears.

    Hi there
the refresh doesn't refresh my list on build 7077 x-64 .

I CAN get access as I pointed out by connecting the network share manually -- but if you don't know the name of the network share it's no good.

The XP computers see the W& machines on the network without a problem.

7068 did that to me but not 7077 at all. My XP machine was right there first time with 7077 and it stays put. But with the 7048-7068 I had to switch between homegroup and the other setting to see my XP machine. I'am using a fresh install of X64.
