Acer Laptop.. ready to get it online

I'll have the desktop and the Laptop on the same DSL connection by using the router.(Laptop is Wi-Fi)...

Line up the steps I should use to get this done in the correct order.
    ********

Ok I have my desktop connected to the router NOW...and it's working correctly..(SEE I'm here now..) Have NOT put the router CD in the drive yet.. of the Laptop.

    1. About my password for the laptop.. will it remain the same as my desktop.. or will I use a different one to log on to my DSL..?

    2. As I'll be needing a security something to keep my laptop.. from every John, Sissy or whoever from getting in my laptop..what is the next step to this ?
    ************

I have NOT activated the Anti-virus program on the Laptop.. I won't keep this on my laptop...I want AVAST on it... used it for years.. works great never had a virus since.

Note : I'll leave the anti-virus .. on the pc .. will get help removing it late.from you guys / gals.

3.How do I get my chosen anti-virus program to my laptop from my desktop ..I downloaded it to my desktop.. didn't install it.. ..I have a tiny 8GB.. pin drive ( STIX) type thing...USB2 . I was planning to take it from my desktop to the pin drive then to the Laptop.. How do I do this?
Do I plug the pin into one of my desktop usb ports..and download it like that?.( install it on the pin?).take it to laptop ..Install it from the pin drive ?

Give me the correct steps here plz... I think I can follow your instructions.

I want AVAST on the lapot before getting it on line..

Thank you ever so much for your help.

The password for your DSL will remain the same.

To protect your laptop from being used by others, password-protect the user account.

Password - Create for a User Account

Now, for the anti-virus. Download Avast from the internet onto your desktop. Plug the pen drive into one of your desktop USB ports, and wait until Windows installs the drivers for it.

Then go to My Computer, and open your drive. Drag the Avast! installer into the drive.

In the system try, at the bottom-right, you will see an icon labeled Safely Remove Hardware. Click it, and eject your pen drive.

Unplug the drive from your desktop, and plug it into your laptop. Open the drive up in My Computer, and run the installer you put on there.

Let us know if you need more help.

    Good luck!

I guess I'm not familiar with internet passwords, but if it accepts the password and you can connect to the internet, I guess it's okay.

    Hi LPt,

The password on your laptop is that assigned to your user account on there - it might or might not be the same as your desktop depending upon what you chose when making the accounts. The password and other login details for your ISP are stored in your router.

Dwarf.. I hate I've gotten off to such a bad start.. was my fault if this password is the only reason for this.
Just after the screen appeared last night after starting up the laptop.. I was ask to name the laptop.. I gave it my name.. then the next sreen appeared.. not sure now what it was... then it ask for a password.. I typed a whole new password thinking when I was out of town.. I could sue that passowed.. in the laptop.. NEVER got on line.. with the laptop.. didn't have the antivirus activated yet.. I skipped their activation of the one already on the laptop.. I skipped the registration.. had done that yesterday on the phone with ACER.
    Closed it went to bed..
This morning I attached the router to both the Laptop and the desktop.. the desk top came right on..when I clicked my DSL account.. I have that password saved.. so rarely have to type it in.. did some work.. came here to post my Thread...Acer Laptop ..ready to get it on line..... when I was ask for my password to sign in.. I used the one I typed in last night.. no go.. said it was wrong.... that's where I am now.. Can't do the screen shot ..can't get the laptop on line yet...
