    Trouble Sharing Files

    Hi, I have 2 computers hooked up to a home network via a linksys router. CPU1-WinXp 64 / CPU2-Win7 64. CPU1 has a local printer attached via usb and both computers have the same workgroup name. CPU1 can see shares on CPU2 and even access them. CPU2 can only see the computer and not the shares itself on the network and it will not let me into the computer to see it's shared files that are indeed shared properly. Both computers have file sharing turned on. Does anyone know how I can fix this issue. Is it a permissions thing? I want to be able to share files accross the network as well as have CPU2 print to CPU1's attached printer.

    Any help would be so appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hello JFAZ;

    I have both 7 and XP on my home network, with a printer connected to XP, all happily coexisting, so I am sure we can get you going also.

    There was a similar thread earlier on this topic. If you would look it over and see if your questions are answered. If not, let us know how we can help further?

    Ok so I ran through the steps but I had an issue with the regedit part to disable IPv6. It says:

    5.) Type any one of the following values to configure the IPv6 protocol, and then click OK:
    1. <LI type=a>Type 0 to enable all IPv6 components.

      Note The value "0" is the default setting. <LI type=a>Type 0xffffffff to disable all IPv6 components, except the IPv6 loopback interface. This value also configures Windows Vista to use Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) instead of IPv6 in prefix policies. <LI type=a>Type 0x20 to use IPv4 instead of IPv6 in prefix policies. <LI type=a>Type 0x10 to disable native IPv6 interfaces. <LI type=a>Type 0x01 to disable all tunnel IPv6 interfaces.
    2. Type 0x11 to disable all IPv6 interfaces except for the IPv6 loopback interface.
    This might be stupid but I figured I'd disable IPv6 - by typing in 0xffffffff - "b." This says it disables all IPv6 components, except loopback but either way I cant even type in any of the values.

    I cannot type out x, it will not type x, am I reading this wrong? I'm not sure why the letter x will not type in there when I'm trying to put this value haxadecimal in?

    Any ideas?

    Hello JFAZ;

    Don't know why you are having problems with the registry. Here is another way to disable ipv6: open an elevated command prompt and copy and paste this command

    netsh interface ipv6 set global randomizeidentifiers=disabled

    Please let us know if this helps?

    Ok I tried that and I can see the computer still but I get "Windows cannot access\\CPU1" However I can see two of my other computers that I hooked up and can easily access their files. I tried on my other computers to access the WinXP files (as they can see the computer) and they cannot neither. This issue must be with the WinXP64 machine itself. Any ideas on what I'd have to do?

    Ok, I got everything all figured out now. What I ended up doing was just set the XP machine up again to file and print share and that was all I needed to do to fix this. I cann access files now on that machine and I have printer access and can print. All is good and I guess this was a good lesson to "just keep it simple". Start of with basics (i.e. - change workgroup name on all machines and re-set up file/print sharing) I wouldn't have thought to do this because everything appeared to be fine, but I guess it really wasn't.

    Thanks again for all the help/advice and remember to "Keep it Simple"- at first
