Windows 7: Logon issue

Logon issue

Hi There,

I have a client that had an computer (XP) go down !

So have replaced it with a W7-Home machine.
( So it is now 1 x XP machine and 1 x W7 machine, peer to peer network, ADSL internet )

Mostly got everything working.

But one annoying thing is the XP user has to login once each time they turn their computer on and access something that accesses data on the W7 machine ( The W7 machine is the main machine where most of their data is ). This is mostly accounting software data, like MYOB and a Custom accounting app !

The XP user is also a user (Administrator) on the W7 machine.

TIA, Dave

I assume they've mapped a drive to that 7 box? Then when logging in again it's prompting for user name and password? Is this correct?

Windows XP

That's right...

So for example I have a folder called c:\djs\abd_data ( on the W7 machine ) where their MYOB files are stored and this folder is shared and all the relevant security permissions given to that user!

regards, Dave

When you mapped the drive did u use \\ip address or \\machinename\folder?

When that person logs back in, is it automatically prompting for user name and password or does it wait for you to double click the network drive?

Is the user name and password the user is using a "windows7machine\user" or is it the "xpmachine\user" structure?

work around would be removing the permissions for that particular user or group and use the "everyone" group. That way, the machine wouldn't care whose connecting.

Sorry Brady, I didn't read your first post carefully enough!

I do not actually have a mapped drive letter, have just shared the folder and it appears on the XP computer as an available network 'place'

I'll be accessing that computer later today, will have a close look !

cheers Dave

You may want to map the drive. There is an option to automatically reconnect at logon.

Logon script issue...
Hi, I work in a fairly large company and we use a logon script (pushed thru GPO) utilizing "NET USE" to access shared drives. In XP, the system simply skips those drives which user has no access rights to and goes back straight to the C:\drive prompt. This effectively puts an end to the script...
