WLAN Polling Issue

Hey guys, first time poster here. I would assume that this has been brought up before, but I am unable to locate a post regarding it, so I figured I'd start a new one. If there is one open currently, or one with various fixes/troubleshooting, please point me to it.

Since building my new computer and installing Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, I've been getting lag spikes every 60-120 seconds, 99% of the time while playing online games like Battlefield: Bad Company 2. I've done some research and it appears this is likely caused by the WLAN AutoConfig polling service that Windows 7 (and Vista) uses to acquire the most appropriate wireless connection for your computer.

I have a WRT54G Linksys router with up-to-date firmware (as of a month ago) and a new WMP600N wireless adapter in my computer with the most recent driver.

I have noticed a little bit of lag at odd times while watching Hulu, but nothing too bad (perhaps relative to the scaled-down usage of the network from BC2 while still streaming data).

I have tried WLAN Optimizer, but that did not solve my problem. Before doing anything else too intricate or involved I wanted to check here and see if there was anything known to work to solve this.

Also, I've gotta say that this whole thing is just a little silly- I don't know that there are enough wireless networks out there to warrant this kind of service, especially considering the fact that you appear to be stuck with it- period.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

That particular router has twelve different versions, some work ok with Window 7, others,... not so well at all. We have been getting people in here with that router complaining about connection problems all the time, 2-3 times a week for the last 6 months.
If you continue to have connection problems try using a different router and see if it helps. :)

How to increase USB polling rate?
I was able to increase polling rate for my USB mouse very easily (but just downloading and running a program) in Windows XP, but from what I've read on the net, changing the USB polling rate for a mouse in Windows 7 is much more involved. Does anyone have any info on how to go about doing this?
