DNS Client Event 1014 mp3downloadsnow.org

Anyone know what mp3downlodanow.org is? I'm seeing errors in Computer Management. I installed the RC build of Win7 build 7100 on the 10th on a fresh SATA drive Partition separate from my Vista HP install.

On the the 11th, and what seems to be around 6am and midnight local system time the error appears. Its not totally consistent on the times however.

Error msg:
Name resolution for the name www.mp3downloadsnow.org timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

To my knowledge I've not installed anything related to any mp3 downloads, nor do I subscribe to any site for music. Is this part of Win7 Media Center updates, or something in WMP 12 ? Do I need to worry about it ?

Entering the site name in a browser leads nowhere, same time-out error, so the site is down since the 11th or does not exist.

I've seen these random DNS events in all the Win7 builds I've tried, including the official beta and RC from Microsoft's site. I was a little freaked out at first that it might be a trojan calling home but I think it's just a new event that wasn't present in Vista or XP.

It's most likely from ad links that are timing out on web pages you browse. Nothing to worry about.

First welcome to sevenforums. Im assuming that you got your win 7 image from somewhere reliable. I did a whois on the above site and the info can be found here. Home. Im pretty sure that this has absolutely nothing to do with win 7 and I suspect you have some sort of mal-ware. While it could be part of WMP I doubt it.

Do you have a firewall and anti-virus installed? We could give you more help if you fill in your "my system specs" in user CP

As I said in my earlier post I've seen these entries in the event log before, even on fresh installs of the official beta and RC the came directly from Microsoft's web site. I'm running Solor's compiled ISO of build 7232 right now and I have a few of these entries to random sites - including Microsoft.com in a couple of instances. I just installed it yesterday and have only loaded trusted applications so far that were fine on my earlier Vista install.

I think it's hasty to assume malware just yet. The EventID in question may show up only in certain configs. I use a router and it may have something to do with that. I suspect the entries are coming from pages viewed in IE that have ads linking to unresponsive servers, or a bad return from his DNS server. Just a guess, but I think the OP is probably experiencing this.

I have done on-line scans with Kasperksy, and ESET - both came up clean. I tried Superantispyware, but they don't have proper drivers for X64, so I removed it. Not tried Malwarebytes yet, as I'm not sure it works right with Win7 x64.

I use mainly Minefield Trunk builds (Firefox bleeding edge builds) - as I enjoy testing/filing/assisting others in using Firefox.

System info has been updated.

Currently using the built-in Firewall in Win7, and no AV. I have done on-line scans with Kaspersky, and ESET, and both have come up clean.

System spec:
HP Pavilion AMD Phenom X4 Quad 2.3ghz 8gig ram HD3200 on-board video.
750gig SATA drive as Drive C, and 350gig SATA drive partioned into equal parts, one has Win7, other is where I keep my downloads.

Win7 and Vista HP are both x64.

Win7 was downloaded right from MS when it became publicly available.
I don't do torrents/file-sharing, no use any so-called 'leaked' software.

Superantispyware not have have drivers for x64, so I don't trust its working properly, had it installed for a short time, but was kicking errors in the Event manager, so I removed it. Not tried MBAM yet, as I'm not sure it runs on Win7 x64 either.
