Windows 7: Youtube, Hulu and other streams load very slow!

Youtube, Hulu and other streams load very slow!

Lately I've been encountering incredibly slow load times for streaming videos. I use Google Chrome (though have tested with IE and Mozilla to rule out the browser being the problem) and never used to have to wait for small videos to buffer. Now I experience buffer sessions every 5~10 seconds.

Games run smoothly, I ran speed tests yesterday on
and my transfer rates for uploads and downloads seem to be the same as they were before I experienced these problems.

Today I ran a disc check, virus scan, defragging session and CCleaner run as well. I tried both firewall on and off, switched my power settings between balanced/performance, and reset my modem and called my internet provider, Road Runner, to check if they were doing work in my area (which they weren't).

If anyone has any suggestions I would gladly appreciate it (:

Have you made sure Adobe Flash Player is up to date? Download the latest version at Adobe - Adobe Flash Player .

I would also recommend you use HTML5 where possible; this is natively built into Safari, Chrome and FireFox and will work in IE8 as long as Chrome is installed. This generally cuts down your CPU load and helps you save energy, money and the environment and eliminates all Flash related crashes. You can watch YouTube Videos in HTML5 by going to YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. and opting in.
I'm sorry if that was a it environmental and little off topic but I believe its worth doing.

Please report back with your results.

Trying something new

Yes yes tried all of that. I think the problem is my coaxial cable connecting from my apartment wall to a splitter which branches off into a coaxial for my television and a coaxial for my cable internet.

It's been about 5 years since I first got cable internet and it might be about the right time to switch out my network black box, modem, and power cable for new ones from Road Runner. I'm at my university at the moment and after class am going to one of the Road Runner customer care offices to see if I can swap these old parts for new ones.

Yesterday while I was moving the splitter around, I noticed that my internet would speed up at certain configurations and slow down at others. So it's probably got something to do with the cables.

I'd like to switch out the coaxial that goes into my apartment's wall.. but it seems like those were pre-installed and have a plastic plate covering so I can't swap them out :/ So i'll just do what I can in the meantime.

One question though: Do you think that my problem lies in the coaxial cables? Or is this uncommon.

Much appreciated,
