Hi, I've got some issues with whenever I download torrents (legal downloads of course). Whenever I so much as open any torrent client, all of my other internet stops working. All of the internet in my entire house too, not just my computer. This only seems to happen in my Se7en installation, but not on my Ubuntu format.
I've tried uTorrent, Vuze, BitLord, BitComet, and BitTorrent.
Any ideas why?
Yikes - you might need to take that up with your ISP. Sounds like they've clamped down pretty tight in your area. Mind me asking what service you have?
Also, does it happen when you so much as open the client without opening a torrent file? Or only when a transfer is initiated?

Haha, I asked my ISP and they swear that they don't throttle torrenting. I use Armstrong Cable, which I'm sure you've never heard of. I'm pretty sure it's basically Comcast, because the digital cable looks exactly the same. And yeah, it does it even when I'm not downloading a file I think... Let me check that real quick.

Can you tell me your router's make/model? Some routers simply "blackout" when bombarded by torrent client. You might as well look for firmware updates for your router...

Umm, it's a netgear something-or-other, haha. But it's a brand new router, and I had the same issues before I upgraded routers, cuz I thought that was the problem too.

Hmm... looking at the product page, it should be more than capable to handle torrent connections... Few years back I support Azureus in my spare time (now it's called Vuze). Back then, many routers "puked" when bombarded with bittorrent connections (including the infamous WRT54G, lots of problems back then).
If you can, try this: start a bittorrent client (it should go to internet black out, right?) then type this in a command prompt => tracert 64.233.181.105
That command's output should show at least 2 "gateways", more is good. If it stops at the first gateway, that means your router puked, if so... check your bittorrent client, look at number of seeds/peers connected at that time, write it down, post back.

Umm, while running, it was able to get through 13 gateways (albeit with pings of over 1200ms). I found that my problem is more specifically browsing. GoogleTalk keeps working just fine, and so does skype, but it's mainly just any browsing. I googled that and found that it seems to be a TCP/IP Half-open problem. How do I change that in Windows 7? I knew how to with Windows XP but it's not the same.
You don't need to mess with the half-open settings. Everything is running perfectly, except browsing...?

Anyway, that ping time, over a second each? If so, then there's absolutely something wrong with one of your network gear... (I suspect the router)...

This is like the infamous symptom of "bad settings".

edit: "bad settings" = Bittorrent client not properly setup, especially in upload limit and connection number(s). Click here to get good settings.
