Windows 7 folder sharing

Hi guys, something similar has probably been asked before but I cannot quite figure it out

The problem is quite simple I need to have a certain directory on all of my windows 7 computers to have read/write access for all networked computers
that is i need to be able to access this directory from any pc and on any pc the directory is "C:\ProgramData\Pure Networks\Platform\ScreenCaptures" which is for network magic where is puts the screen capture files, basically the screen dumps need to be able to be copied out and then deleted on a regular basis, I have got it working on one laptop but that is it and i don't know why it works and the rest do not. on the rest i can only view the files but not copy,open or delete them, to make it simple of what i have done i have listed it below:

Shared all folders in the directory list for "everyone" and "homegroup"
given permission for the user class "everyone" to full control for this folder and all in chain
given the local user ownership of the files (all of them actually)


so to summarise i can access the folder but not do anything with the files, the permissions are set for full control and the sharing settings or set for "everyone" to have read/write access as well as for homegrouped computers to have read/write access

All the computers bar one are running windows 7 enterprise 64bit, the other is running windows 7 professional 32bit (my desktop, laptop is 64bit)

hope someone can figure it out

did you run as administrator..if share to "everyone" and control "full access", i think is can access.
maybe have something wrong with it..have disable the firewall???

Not quite sure what you mean when i was making the changes i was using the only account which was a administrator, i also set the folder to share for everyone to have read/write access and also for homegroup to have read/write access, don't know what the full access you are referring to is

Navigate to the sharing tab of the properties dialog for the folder you're attempting to share:

Click the Advanced Sharing Button


Click the Permissions button


Click the add button


Click the Locations button


Be sure to add the locations you wish to be able to access the folder from and the users on that location. You should see more than just one location if your networking is set up properly.

yes i do get a specific error, when trying to copy a file it says
"File access denied you need permission to perform this action
you require permission from the computers administrator to make a change to this file"

as for the location adding function i only see the local machine not any other devices on the network, very similar to the supplied picture attachment you posted

You need an administrative level account on THAT machine with the same username and password as on your present machine. Alternatively... you need to use User Accounts and Passwords for sharing and log into the other machine under an account that does have admin priveledges.

Then in Advanced sharing you need to add this user name to the list and give it "full control".

ok i can see where you are going with that and they are both possible solutions but wont really work in this situation, mainly due to the users of the computers not cooperating with extra accounts or giving up their passwords, however i know this can work without logging in on the local machine, as it is working fine on one machine already i just don't know how i did it, to clarify what i am trying to do:
trying to share this directory "C:\ProgramData\Pure Networks\Platform\ScreenCaptures" on my network so i can modify its contents (read/write)

One folder is the same as another...
The only thing I can suggest is that you go to the working machine and copy down the settings... and try them on the non-working machines.
