Volatile Network

A bit earlier, I was having a problem accessing pages in my router's setup (<5 minutes per page), so I decide to reboot. After doing so, I totally lost the ability to access these pages, and the internet also. Checking in Network and Sharing, the network is now labeled unidentified, and the type us Public, instead of Home, as it should be. Worse yet, the link to change the type of network is greyed out, and when I try to make a new connection, it doesn't see any wireless devices.

I tried to reset the router, but nothing happened pressing the button, so I unplugged and replugged the powerr, which should have been about the same as a reset, but the situation now remains the same. Can someone tell me how to fix the situation, before I throw my Belkin router and Network adapter in the trash?

I totally agree. After posting this, I got the network set back to Home by resetting the router to factory defaults, and the wireless device actually appeared as it should, except that the router didn't display that the signal was encrypted any longer. But the modem icon kept blinking, meaning that I still didn't have internet access...except on the secondary, which I also lost later. I finally removed the cable from the modem to the router, and went directly to the primary rig, but at first, that still didn't help. After switching ethernet ports and resetting the modem again, I now have internet back on the primary, but not the secondary...yet.

All this time, I was thinking that the network adapter was the problem for my wireless problems, but now I think that it is a flaky router, so I'm going to RMA it, instead of the adapter...I would do the same with the adapter, but it came from a different supplier. For the time being, I think that I'm going to dig out my old ZyXel router, and forget about a wireless network...at least until my present mood passes.

That is probably a good idea. I think I am glad I do not have a Belkin router!
