AVG Firewall caused issues with homegroups/sharing

Hi everyone, this is my first post here..

I have two PCs, each with Windows 7 Ultimate installed, that I've been puzzled on how to set up to share files. Both also have AVG 8.5 suites installed, and after reading some posts on here, I tried turning the AVG firewalls off.. This worked great, as I was able to share to and from either PC!! That makes me very happy..

My question now, is this: What is a good firewall to use that WON'T give sharing issues? I turned Windows firewall back on, on both PCs.. Is this adequate? If anyone has a better firewall suggestion that doesn't give the same problems AVG does (had issues with streaming to Xbox 360 too), I would love to hear it!

    Thanks in advance!

The Windows firewall plus the one that your router has should be perfectly safe. The third party firewalls and A/V's are still evolving to work correctly with Windows 7 but so far they all seem to cause problems with sharing.

    Is their firewall less problematic?

It can't be any worse LOL. Only way to know for sure is to use it and find out.

Free AVG is pretty useless all together. I would uninstall it with the AVG Uninstaller and use free MSE instead. That is not perfect either, but better than AVG. Not everybody wants to pay for Norton or G-Data.

MSE does a better job than AVG? For everything, viruses, malware etc?

Sorry, just discovered a typo and corrected it. It should read: That is not perfect either, but better than AVG.
