    One Way HOmegroup Access

Just picked up a new ASUS desktop running 7 home premium 64. great machine. tried to set up homegroup and regular network with my laptop, with same OS. problem is that at first it was working fine, but now only the laptop can view the desktop's files and folders, and the desktop can't even access the laptop. also, i am now unable to make any file transfer between the two. I have not changed any settings between when it was working to when it was not, and i was still able to connect the computers to each other via remote assistance.

Also: I have always wanted to get all my computers working together on the same network but I have never been able to do it successfully (accept for the 2 windows 7 machines recently). I tried putting all the computers in the same Workgroup, but that only worked for a short while with the windows 7 machines.

Any help for either issue is greatly appreciated.

    THanks in advance,
    Frank

Hi Frank - similar post going on - but back to basics - have you checked all your firewall and a/v settings on your machines - try disabling them (disconnect from the internet temp' to be safe) and see how it go's from there......and as i have just posted elsewhere - i had an older netgear router i constantly had to re-set to keep all connectivity going- done all firmware updates but only cured the problem by replacing it (not suggesting you need to)..hope this helps to leads to a cure....

I have experienced some issues with my router where resetting it solved the problem, but it is awkward to blame the router because I just got it a year ago and it is pretty high-end. Either way, I have not done anything with Windows firewall on the new machine, nor do i have an antivirus program on it yet (Laziness has delayed my installation of Kaspersky antivirus!) Are there any specific parts of the firewall that I would have to disable?

    Thanks again
