Hello Xcode, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The transfer can only be as fast as the upload bandwidth. If your upload speed is let's say 1 Mbps, you can upload a 1.5 GB file in about 3 hours 30 minutes, upload speed 2 Mbps needs 1 hour 45 minutes to send the same file.

These are estimated times, requiring that the full upload bandwidth is used to that specific upload.

You can try to compress the file thus making it smaller, and upload a zip or rar archive. The size of the archive depends on what kind of file you compress.

Sure you can but that doesn't change the upload bandwidth limitations.

In order to use a program like FileZilla you'd need to setup an FTP server on one of the machines you're using. From what I can tell, this seems like it would be a bit of a project for you. I recommend you continue using LogMeIn Pro. If that is too slow, you can always use an online storage option so that your dad can upload the file overnight and you can download it overnight as well.

Online Storage | Share Files with Shared Folders | Windows Live SkyDrive

The SkyDrive will basically allow your dad to tell his computer that he would like to share certain folders with his skydrive account. This should upload those files/folders to his account. Once they're uploaded, you should be able to log in via sharing and download whatever files he has chosen to share.

Note: This won't increase your bandwidth, in fact it will make it slower since your dad has to upload and then you get to download once he has finished. However, its a bit easier because your dad won't have to upload files each time he places them in the folder, they'll be uploaded automatically and you can likely setup your computer to download those files automatically.

Use Dropbox to sync the files. It installs a folder on your computer inside "My Documents" (or wherever you specify). Any files you drop in there will be synced to other computers you install Dropbox to automatically. You're provided with 2GB free space and unlimited bandwith. Also, multiple revisions of files can be kept.

Yes, your upload speed is the #1 thing. It's like having a massively awesome fire engine that can pump out 50,000 gallons of water per second. If you pull up and attach a garden hose that only supplies 1/15th of a gallon of water per second...there is really nothing on the truck you can tweak to increase the quantity of water that the garden hose is supplying.

You can also transfer it onto an external drive (e.g. flash drive) which would be way faster.

He doesn't state how far his dads office is, so if it is very far away, then it may be slower.
