Folder redirection
Hi. I work in a high school and this year we moved to Win7 Pro from Xp. In the past we have made a lot of folder redirection. Desktops and Startmenus are redirected to certain shares to provide students with locked down desktops and startmenus. We also redict user folders such as My Documents, My music, My videos + all the new folders in Windows 7.
I have an issue though and I have read the documentation on the MS website about it but still had no joy. When you redirect the Documents folder on a Windows Vista-based computer to a network share, the folder name unexpectedly changes back to Documents
If user anne.scott logs on, her my documents are redirected to \\server\anne.scott$\ and the same for the other folders. As a redirect option I can assign exclusive rights to the user but I dont want to do this as staff and admin people sometimes need to access students work. If I do not tick the assign exclusive rights option, when that user logs on the users folder gets renamed from anne.scott to My Documents. So when teachers and admin staff go to access any students work they only see hundreds of folders call "my documents". To fix this your need to delete the file desktop.ini and folder renames itself correctly.
The MS website recommends that you create a subfolder beneath the share to redirect to so My Documents gets redirected to \\server\anne.scott$\My Documents. Sadly, the folder renaming continues with this option also.
Has anybody a solutions to this, please bear in mind that I have 1500 users to look after so a scripted option is appealing
I can of course turn Document redirection off but this seems to defeat the object.
Thanks
