    Using Windows 7 home -- homegroup not available...

    wen I go to networks -> homegroup, I get a message saying that computer belongs to a homegroup. but that the homegroup is not available because I am not connected to the home network.

    the change password option is grayed out. My computer is connected to the internet but shows that it is not connected to any networks. On the LAN it says that windows cannot discover any computer or device.

    on the wireless network it says the adapter is not connected. Both LAN and wireless work, why is the network map not seeing them?

    I have turned on network discovery and still shows the same results. I was working before. Not sure where I should start. As I understand it, you cannot create homegroups on windows 7 home...there is just the one. I am connected through a 2wire modem. I also have installed Kapersky anti-virus 2010.

    I had mcafee virus software from adobe but seems that disappeared when I installed adobe 9.3. Not sure if that is causing the problem. Any one has had this problem before? Would appreciate the help.

    From what I can decipher, you're having trouble connecting to a network even though you're connected to the internet? You should probably let us know exactly what is and isn't working.

    Either way, this will help you with setting up a network via Windows 7:

       Tip
    You should know that you cannot connect to a Windows 7 "Homegroup" network via a Windows Vista or Windows XP computer. If you want to network computers running operating systems that are not Windows 7, you need to use Workgroups.

    Thanks for the reply. I believe my router is already setup as a network. I see it as a wireless network under wireless connections . router name is 2wire069. I am using default encrytion and 10 digit WEP code that came with the router. When I try setup network, it seems to want me to redo the router and the code.

    I have uploaded a snaphot of what I see when I go to "Open network and sharing center" Before I used to see my

    home computer ----> 2wire069 -------> internet

    now there is nothing. not sure if there is somethng that needs to be changed on my 2wiremodem.

    My settings look similar to yours. I am not getting any networks listed on my networks page. the little connection icon on the bottom right corner has an X on it. I read that in Windows 7 home you have access to only 1 homegroup and you are not allowed to create another. Any other users on Windows 7 home with similar issue?

    I can suggest a help for you. instead of going through pages and pages... we can use teamviewer... which is a desktop viewer.. and i can remotly see what is going on with your computer... I mean i won't have full access but i can go through setting by setting with you to make sure its correct.

    that is just something i'll offer you if your interested.
