Windows 7: Windows 7 and XP - having trouble

Windows 7 and XP - having trouble

Here's the setup:
Laptop running Vista Business, connected wired
Desktop running Windows 7, connected wireless

I can boot both up, and send files to my plotter (hooked up to the Win7 desktop) no problem. But if either machine sits idles long enough the only way for the plotter to accept the files for plotting, I have to disconnect (thru software) the wireless connection. All I have to do is disconnect and reconnect. Anything that had been spooled to the computer will print. Even when I can't plot or see files on the desktop from the laptop, the internet on the desktop still works.

I've disabled IPv6 on both machines, made sure the power management on the wireless adapter is turned off so it stays on. I'm in the process of moving all the computers to a new office and I'll have both on wireless then.

When the computers can't see each other I get a DNS error as the cause. I'm using DHCP from by Buffalo router. But again, a restart on the wireless connection fixes it.

Any ideas???

How about the power management on either computer when it comes to the hard drives.

By default usually, windows will spin down the hard drive will will actually disconnect the network.

Go to the Advance power settings settings and make sure that nothing turns off nor shuts down... the only thing i would really do if you are having computers transfer files at certain times and it will be using the network is just turn off your monitor.

Putting the computer into sleep, hybernation and even spinning down the hard drives will cause a connection drop
