    Internet connection gets disconnected

I have an HP G60 laptop with preloaded Windows 7 Home Premium. The OS has been fully patched till date, and guaranteed to have no viruses. I have MS Security Essentials and Super Anti Spy-ware installed and working. Lately I notice that each time I close the cover and open it back the OS resumes all right but the internet connection is lost. No amount of trouble shooting through Windows helps. Of course rebooting solves the problem. My internet connection is through a Scientific Atlanta cable modem connected through the LAN connector, and so requires no drivers. Shall appreciate any help to resolve the matter.

This type of problem can be fixed by adjusting the wake on lan features.

Windows 7 has quite a few wake on lan and power management features, the link below shows you how to set it up.

Keep in mind that updated drivers may be required for these features to work correctly.

Power Management for Network Devices in Windows 7

Configuring power management using the user interface

To turn power management features on or off
    1. Open Network and Sharing Center (click the Start button, type Network and Sharing in the Start Search box, and press Enter).
    2. Click the Change adapter settings link in the upper left of the navigation pane.
    3. Right click the network connection you want to enable/disable power management support on and click Properties.
    4. Click Configure.
    5. On the Power Management tab, check or clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
      • When checked, power management is enabled on the network adapter.
      • When cleared, power management is disabled on the network adapter.
    6. You can enable Wake on LAN for all wake methods or just enable magic packet WoL:
      • To enable Wake on LAN for all methods, check the Allow this device to wake the computer check box.
      • To enable Wake on LAN for magic packet only, check the Allow this device to wake the computer check box and then check Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer check box.

Thanks chev65 for your suggestions. However turning off the power saving feature for the LAN card did not help in my case. I have a feeling that the problem has been caused by one of the updates installed recently, since I am quite sure this problem did not exist a couple of weeks earlier before I installed the updates.

Try updating/ downgrading your network card drivers. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling them.

Thanks again to you guys chev65 and Bill2. I had some hesitation in rolling back the LAN card driver and hence took my time. Today took a disc image before trying it out, and never regretted it. My PC works beautifully now.

By chance do you have Itunes installed? Try uninstalling Bonjour. It's been known to drop internet connection.
