    Download speed cut in half

    Hello,
I posted before and some how never got any results. Probably my fault. I upgraded to Windows 7 ultimate from XP home. All seems well and things are still pretty fast. When I do bandwidth speed tests, my results in 7 are 1.5 Mps download. In XP they were almost 3 Mbs in XP. I'm paying for 3 Mbs and I have always been close to that until I started using 7. I have tweaked everything to the best performance. Disabled all the eye candy and visual effects etc. Just wondered if I have missed something. I have 160 gig hd with only 1/4 used. 2 gigs memory. 3.2 gig Intel Pentium processor. I have disabled all non essential items. Any ideas on this? Thanks,
    John

seems this is a big problem with win 7,i went from vista to 7 64bit and my ping in games has doubled, ive searched all over the net with no luck in finding cure.
My downloads have also slowed down.If xprpo 64 bit wasnt so expensive id go that route,oh well time will tell.

Just for testing purposes, open msconfig/startup and disable all items except for your anti virus, reboot then test... let us know the results..

Are you sure you havent exceeded your download limit? Many ISPs have a fair usage policy and when that happens, they throttle speeds to half. Check the fine print of your broadband plan, also check with your ISP.

I'm a little concerned about unchecking all those things. I'll check with my ISP, but I don't think they would have changed their policy just when I upgraded to 7 from xp:)

Could be true.certain ISP have their download limit sort like 5gb per month, exceeding it made the downloading, surfing slow. Less chance that this is the cause as well it might be true
