    Network WITHOUT HomeGroup?

The use of ISV6 addressing by Windows 7 HomeGroup makes using MySql impossible. Scripts will either lock up or time out. I was able to remedy that problem by disabling ISV6 and MySql works fine.

Unfortunately, disabling ISV6 removes the ability to network with my other 4 coumpters here at home because HomeGroup REQUIRES ISV6 to be enabled for networking.

Does anyone know how to set up home networking without using HomeGroup here on my Win7 machine?

Simply use the Workgroup or public file sharing options instead. You should have better luck using SQL server 08 which has better compatiblity with Windows 7, third link below.

    Join or create a workgroup

Network Location - Set as Home, Work, or Public Network

If you have a computer with a NOS, you could always create your own domain. Just a thought.

Thanks for your help! I feel stupid...I've done that 100 times on XP but wasn't aware that Win7 had the same process. I thought HomeGroup was the only network setup option.

Yes Homegroups only works with Windows 7 machines but everyone makes the mistake of trying to set it up with mixed Op systems which won't work correctly. Also, IPv6 function is only required if you are setting up a Homegroup, it only works on the LAN.

Glad you got it working Davejazz. Thanks for the Rep. :)
