Windows 7: "Ethernet" Connection Drop

Windows 7 Build 7229

I just installed build 7229 x86, and had an internet drop, requiring me to disable and then enable the adaptor (wired, not wireless). So, even this late in the game, this problem isn't fixed.

I have the same problem but I have noticed so far that after I disable and enable after the initial startup of 7229 x64 it is stable. It has remained stable for a day and a half so far.

Have any of you tried : start -> cmd (run as admin) ipconfig /renew that simply tells your system to renew the IP at the modem... I usually do this 1 time after I upgrade, then I recommend : netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal . This has stopped all my netconnections being dropped. (wired).

build 7201 does not suffer from this issue related to torrenting/high tcp connections so far. i fixed my previous torrenting issue and maxed out all tcp connections/bandwith while watching with tcp-z for a good couple hours and no drop has occurred on the default windows driver. avoiding installing any other drivers until rtm is out for the network card and all manufactures have released newer revisions as using the drivers you have the issue with would not help solve it as opposed to the win 7 versions do contain different stock drivers i believe for most NICs. as for rest of you i suggest checking your routers because the only drop outs i had were router related and was in need of a reboot for some odd reasons.

and the iprelease/renew does not solve the problem you must manually disable/reanble the card or allow the repair wizard to do so.

I'm glad I found this thread because I was beginning to think that I was having hardware issues with my new motherboard.

Just to give more datapoints, I'm running Build 7100 and have also noticed these strange network drop-outs. I've had two different types 1) intermittent short 1 or 2 seconds hiccups where requests will hang and ping packets will either drop or had unusually long times and 2) issues where heavy network traffic will just cause the network connection to completely drop causing gateway errors and giving the yellow exclamation point on the taskbar.

It seems, and it's hard to say for sure, that this started once I did the windows updates and pulled down all the critical updates. I had the machine running for about 3 days with no issues whatsover. However, the problem is so intermittent that I can't be sure it wasn't there before and I just didn't notice it.

I have also done alot of troubleshooting including removing my WRT54G from the picture and connecting my machine directly to the modem. I have been able to see issues both on my LAN and directly connected to the WAN. At one point, I was able to consistently cause the connection to drop (i.e. yellow exclamation point) by running a bandwidth test on SpeedTest.net. The connection would come back after a minute or two and then another speedtest would cause it to drop again.

For the first situation I mentioned above, I actually had to reboot the machine to correct the problem (the hiccups but not lost completely problem). For the second problem, I can just disable and re-enable the network adapter.

So far, I have tried disabling IPV6 and disabling all power server/WOL options in the card. Nothing, so far, has made a difference.

Ok, I went into the network device itself and disabled the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" option there (as opposed to tweaking the power options). So far, knock on wood, things have been very stable and I haven't had any drop outs.

Of course, this kind of problem is so hard to troubleshoot since I don't (yet) have a reliable way to reproduce it every time.

Anyway, this is the longest stretch I've had without an issue so that's at least a datapoint.

I had the same problem with RC1 7100 x64
I downloaded the latest driver for my Ethernet card & that seem to have solved the problem, last 24 hrs its has not hanged the comp & dropped the connection, hope it stays like this til the RTM comes out.
