tongteh... try searching for other drivers for that chipset... what chipset is it? nforce what? 2, 3, 4?

I have to manually install the drivers for my nforce 4 chipset when i'm on the wired adapter, atleast i had to on the beta, fixed a gateway issue with the 7 beta driver which could still be in use in the RC, havent compared yet.

No failing adapter - the wireless and both wired adapters perform or fail the same. I used manufacturer drivers for the linksys wireless and windows drivers for the wired (motherboard) adapters.

find out what wired adapter on the MB you have by going to device manager under network adapters. Then go to manufacturer website, or google the adapter. Uninstall drivers from wired adapter. Then either install by the setup.exe install or if zip/folder, use device manager to navigate back to the adapter now with a yellow mark on it (most likely), and choose "update driver", specify folder, navigate to folder and then proceed to install the driver. THEN reboot, come back to desktop, double check tcp/ip4 settings that you have your gateway and dns servers matched at the router ip and you should be better off... hopefully... if not then you are in the same rickety boat that i may be in.

New drivers do not resolve the problem.
tongteh, I have the problem with both IE8 and Firefox .
I have installed Vista64 on a spare drive just to confirm what I remember - that the problem does not occur in Vista - more later.

points to be clear:
new driver doesnt resolve problem
browser doesn;t seems to be the cause
it's definitely a win 7 issue
and it's surely annoying..

On another thread I found this advice which does not work for my wireless adapter but I think may be helpful for your ethernet adapter.
Goto device manager and find your network card and click properties and under management make sure that "allow the computer to turn off this device" is unticked.
