Windows 7: "Ethernet" Connection Drop

same thing...

SiS191 ethernet, ASUS F81SE laptop w/ Windows 7 x64. Can't remember this being a problem with the RC but since installing the RTM version of Windows 7 Professional my wired connectivity has gone to sh%t. Most of the time I can't get connectivity (browsers always trying to resolve host) and sometimes I'll get internet access for a couple of hours and then it disappears again. Nothing seems to work. Screw M$, I'm gonna be stuck with Ubuntu now. What a waste of $200.

Have you tried running in safe mode to see if the problem remains?

Yep, I run into the same problems in safe mode. I just changed a setting yesterday in the registry to force broadcast flags and things seem to be working so far... I'm just waiting for the problem to reappear... if it doesn't then I'm back in troubleshooting mode.

I'm still bewildered by the fact that this wasn't a problem in the 4 or so months that I was using Windows 7 RC b.7127 ... might they (MS) have made some changes to the driver (my SiS191 ethernet driver) or some core TCP configuration? There's only one driver available and that's the one from Microsoft - ASUS doesn't even offer a driver for download (for W7x64) but did for Vista x64. I'm doing more research on the issue now...

Oh, and I live in a bloody apartment building in Bangkok, Thailand, now so it's conceivable that what I'm encountering now is a router issue (that doesn't seem to affect WinXP or the other tenants that are not suing Win 7). When I was using the W7 RC I was living in a house and had, of course, my very own personal router. I'll have to go to the office of my building and try to get the make and model of the router they are using.

Ok,

My problem is not exclusive to Windows 7. I installed XP and also a linux distro and the same problems occured. Must be a new problem related to the routers this apartment building uses!

I registered just to post about this. I have had this exact problem running an asus mboard using nvidia nforce 650i chips, I trawled and trawled, trying a bunch of things but it still kept disconnecting the internet.

Eventually I found the fix was as easy as changing a few of the adapter settings, I havent had 1 problem since doing this.

Good video with instructions right here;

Wow that's a strange solution. I don't have the problem anymore, but for the others, it's easy to try.
