"Ethernet" Connection Drop

    Snuffy have you tried downloading a large file and are you download speeds at a consistant somewhat high speed? Have you tried transfering a large file over your network?

    Yes, most assuredly. I use uTorrent and Rapidshare quit often.

    I have transferred between HDDs fully uncompressed Windows 7 ISOs.
    I have transferred between two different computers full versions of uncompressed Window 7 ISOs and Full length Movies in the 4GB range.
    I have transferred large files over mIrc.

    speeds in the (slow)1.8 mb to 2.7 mb(hi) mb range. my isp rated speed is 3.0

    Hmm that's strange. Usually this problem occurs for me when downloading off usenet and speeds range from 1 MB/s up to 5 MB/s and my adapters drop.

    This makes no sense. Once you're out on the ethernet/internet then you're on non O.S. specific protocols. It's shouldn't matter if your on Linux, Apple, Vista, W7 or any other O.S. Internet and Ethernet communication protocol standards should be independent of the O.S. generating them. (unless MS screwed up the implementation w/W7)
    Where is my logic wrong???

    An ISP shouldn't have to do anything different for a W7 user.

    There appears to be a Mavell optional driver update showing up in Windows Update. Says it was posted yesterday (Sat, Oct 24). I went ahead and installed. Will report back if this fixes the issue.

    My driver version showing in device manager is now 11.22.3.9 which is actually newer than the one posted on the Marvell site 11.22.3.3

    2. one laptop has Marvel
    3. one laptop has Atheros
    4. one laptop has Intel

    Are any of your machines running the 64-bit version of 7? From what I have seen here, most of these problems are occurring in the x64 world. Not a slam on x86, but the drivers are completely different...

    Just adding my 2 penneth to this thread.

    Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, clean install with nothing other than firefox. Machines network connection randomly dropped twice in one day. Tried to update to the latest Marvell Yukon driver for Windows 7 from the Marvell site, browsed and gamed for most of the day yesterday and the connection dropped once. I also have IPv6 disabled and the other 2 montioned options under networking, power saving for that adapter is also disabled as is QoS.

    5 of us here at work purchased and are using the same version of windows 7 and are experiencing exactly the same behaviour. All of us but one are using motherboards with Marvell Yukon NICs other than someone with a wireless card build into a laptop (Intel) which is also displaying the same disconnects.

    I personally can't use troubleshooting or manually disabling and reenabling of the card to get it to spring back into action. Sometimes a reboot doesn't fix it first time either, I have to actually power off the PC and start from a cold boot.

    I've just spoken to another friend who has purchased and installed home premium x64 over the weekend and has had it running for 2 days now with no problems at all and is using an onboard Realtek NIC....

    All of the people mentioned in my previous post were clean installs, some appear to drop more than others too. I'm lucky it's only once or twice a day!
