Downloads/Uploads stop repeatedly

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Studio XPS 1645 laptop. Recently, I have had downloads and uploads fail and I am wondering whether this is likely a Windows setting, or possibly a hardware problem.

I first experienced this two days ago when I was trying to upload a 626MB file via YouSendIt. The first several attempts were done through my IE8 Browser and they all failed at roughly the same point. Then I downloaded YouSendIt's local client software and it also failed twice at the same point. I then went to a Vista PC and uploaded the same file without a problem using YouSendIt's local client software.

Yesterday I had a similar experience except it was downloading a fairly small PDF. The download stopped on the Win7 PC and worked on the Vista PC.

I checked all the Power Settings on the Win7 and didn't see any problem there. Both PCs are on the same network and both run the Windows firewall and security essentials.

I would appreciate any suggestions of what I should check to resolve this.

I'm still having problems except now I am trying to download a 1.6 GB file sent to me via YouSendIt. The download will stop part way through without explanation. I have scanned with Malwarebytes, but nothing found. In addition to IE8 I have tried FireFox and YouSendIt Express. I have also ensure that nothing is getting turned off by Power Management. I called my ISP and they couldn't offer any suggestions.

I can duplicate this same failure on my Vista PC on this same home network. This suggests to me that it is either something in my network, or (in this case) YouSendIt's server. I haven't changed anything on my network in the past few months so not sure what could be causing this.

The components of my network are:

1. Roadrunner Surfboard "modem"
2. Vonage router
3. DLink gigabit switch
4. Linksys (router) wireless access point

The Vista and Win7 PCs are connected to the internet through gigabit switch -> Vonage router -> Roadrunner "modem".

Any ideas of things for me to check?

I have just been reinstalling a girlfriends Dell. It was causing download issues on networks. Slow download problems, preventing connection.

The problem i discovered is the dell support software and go assist programs. You might want to stop the processes and see if that solves the problem.

I tried stopping the Dell processes but two more download attempts still failed. THEN, overnight there was a Windows update and this morning I was able to download without a hitch on the Vista PC. Haven't yet tried the Win7 but hopefully the update corrected something on both. Or, it could have been something at YouSendIt.

Have you tried recycling your router and modem? Often a modem or router begins to act funky and shutting them down for at least 30 seconds then reapplying power will work.

I did try recycling the router but that didn't help. Guess what (maybe) fixed the problem. Last night both my PCs received the latest Windows update. Now I have successfully downloaded the 1.6 GB file and am uploading another one. It could be something else but I did try two more downloads last night before the update ran and they failed. First thing this morning it sailed right through.

Thats because Windows updates also has updates for your drivers which is probably what the problem was. I never heard of recycling the router before, is there a cash redemption on those? If so I have a couple old ones laying around LOL.
