It did yesterday once and when I got here this morning it was off too. All I did was take out the cable connected to the computer and put it back in and all was good.

I tried that ipconfig \renew but the CMD window said that it can't do that when there is no connection.

p.s. I usually update a post in ANY forum when I have updates or solutions but this is the first time that a user ASKED me if there was any news! Very nice. I was impressed. Thanks.

Ok then here is something new you can try in the routers set up page. You should be able to find a place where you can change channels in the Advanced settings. The default channel is usually channel 6 so you end up with many connections in your area on that same channel which can cause frequent disconnects. Try changing to another channel like 8 or 10, usually makes no difference as long as it's not the one everyone else is using.

I can't find such a setting. I sent you a private message about it.

Ok I looked over the manual for your router, it's an outdated model to say the least. It's also a wired only router which means it's not a channel crosover problem. Let me check for compatiblity with Windows 7. Your computer is fairly new so drivers should be working ok.

The latest firmware for your router was released 5-15-07 so it's compatiblity with Widows 7 is questionable. The only Edimax router showing support for Windows 7 is the BR-6225N which is a much more modern router.

If you have any type of A/V software on your machine that could cause this problem or if you are using any type of third party networking problem might be an issue also. If you aren't running any of those then upgrading your router might be a good option here.

You might try the firmware update on the page in the link below for your BR-6104K router.

I already upgraded the firmware. The second computer that is connected to this router has XP and gets disconnected when I do. (p.s. today it didn't disconnect yet.)

If you'd like, I'll give you the IP for the router with user and pass so you can see the settings yourself. Of course, I'd send you this in a private message.

I can change the router but I know my boss won't do that. He doesn't care that I have to take the cable in and out.

It's a fairly common requirement to install new firmware when upgrading to a new op system with an old router. Happens here all the time and it's fixed many network problems in the past.

Sorry for the bad link if you clicked it was some lame drive detective. These should be newer than the ones form the manufacture site. Have to scroll down for them.

Others with your model of router are having the same problems.
