Recently opened programs and items across domain users

    Good day forum!

I work IT for a college and we are gearing up to roll out Win 7 across campus. In our default local account which we use to build our images, we remove all of the recently opened programs and items from the start menu. This is one of the last things we do prior to using the sysprep profile copy. However, once all is complete, and we join the machine to the domain and login with a domain user account, the recently opened programs and items part of the start menu is cluttered again with Win default items, such as the snipping tool, and so forth. How can we keep this from happening?

    Thanks!

you might try to right click on the start menu -> properties -> and uncheck the two boxes under privacy before you run sysprep.

This did work, however we still want those two options under privacy to be checked, so I recheck them after sysprepping in the local user, and login with a domain account and found the start menu empty as I wanted, but those two options are unchecked. We can create a task to modify this in the registry, does anyone have any idea where these options may be located within the reg?

Have you tried to do this using the Group Policy Editor?

You can do just about anything accross a domain or network using GPE. If you open GPE "type gpedit.msc at the command prompt then hit enter" then go to "User configuration" then to "Administrative templates" then to "Start menu and taskbar" you will see all sorts of options for the start menu including "clear the recent programs list for new users" and "remove frequent programs list from start menu" all that stuff is right there.

Adjusting the Administrative templates makes changes to the registry accross a domain or network.
