    Wireless Network Dropping

I've had this problem now for a week or two and it's gradually getting worse. I'm on Windows 7 and have a wireless network set up. The adaptor and router are both Belkin (G).

I've done all the suggested solutions in Windows, disabling IPV6, changing power settings etc but nothing has worked for me. I've also tried a new network adaptor which unfortunately had the same problem.

After trying everything suggested, I'm leaning towards this being a router issue. I first did a reset (switching off power to the router and back on) and it worked fine for the rest of that day. The next day, it began to drop connection again. I've played with a few settings and the only thing that made any difference was changing the wireless channel. Again, this work for a while but still didn't fix the issue.

My question is, does this sound like it could be a router issue?

Have you tried to update the firmware on your router yet? No need to disable IPv6, it never seems help anyway. Yes it could easily be a router issue, trying different channels sometimes helps or firmware updates fixes them also.

You may have given the solution to your problem without knowing it.

    Here is what you said:

"I've had this problem now for a week or two and it's gradually getting worse. I'm on Windows 7 and have a wireless network set up. The adaptor and router are both Belkin (G).

The key here is you tried another NIC and it unfortunately had the same problem. Then you went further with your troubleshooting and checked your settings and even went so far as to reboot the router. You forgot an important step, did you recycle the modem (DSL, Cable, Satellite etc) what you are telling us here is the problem continue to degrade and to me it points to your ISP equipment.

The router is actually a modem router (apologies, wasn't being clear), so would that have done what you suggest?

If you know someone with a modem/router I would see if they would let you try it, I believe you are having issues with the modem, if this is owned by your ISP you might log a ticket with them to see what they see doing downstream and upstream testing from the Comm Center.

The modem isn't owned by the ISP but I used a laptop today and connected directly to the wireless network. I used it for the internet and had no problems whatsoever. If it continues to work properly, would this rule out a problem with the modem?

    A little update on this.

I bought a new router and finally got it setup. Still the problem seems to be there. I've also re-installed Windows XP to see if it's an OS problem. It's been working fine for a couple of days but it's started to drop again today.

Any more ideas what this could be?

where do you live? are there lots of neighbours' wifi signals bouncing about?

have you tried finding the best channel?

it may help...or it may make no difference...

    worth a try.

Thanks. Not sure it would make a difference with my network working fine on other computers though? I'll give it a try nonetheless so thanks for the info.

As for other networks, I occassionally pick up two others with a really low signal.
