    hey

i was haveing the same problem, i don't use karsparesky or what ever.. here's what worked for me.. i went into services and looked for potential network related services that were disabled .. after a little trail and error i narrowed it down to the tcp netbios helper service .. so i made it autostart .. and rebooted and behold all my network stuff appeared.. i don't use home groups as i have a very wide selection of linux win 2000 and network hard drives and network printers .. and now i can see them all .. interestingly enough they could see the win 7 box the whole time, but the win 7 couldn't see them till i change that value..

    hope this helps

    Thanks!

Thank you so much for your solution. I had the same problem and your idea to turn on the disabled service fixed it. Thanks!

I have a similar problem but wasn't helped by the above solution. In my case the workstation service is disabled and I cannot enable it due to dependencies.

Found out that the Alerter and Messenger Services are missing (not only disabled) and the Workstation service depends on these.

Do you know how to restore them?

    alerter and workstation

    hi

i would go to control panel programs windows feature's .. try uninstalling and reinstalling workstation services .. if you get no joy you may be able to work around it by temporarily enabling the internet information service .. as this should by default reinstall most of your network dependicie's

ps: as an after thought the .net framework also runs this same system tree line so you may have problem's in that

    Turning On Network Discovery

ALL of the following services MUST be started and running:

    DNS Client
    Function Discovery Provider Host
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
    PnP-X IP Bus Enumerator
    SSDP Discovery
    UPnP Device Host

What are 'Services'? Type services.msc . Be aware that getting antsy and turning services on and off at will because you think you're a computer expert now can give you a world of hurtin'. Don't say I didn't warn you.
