    Go to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and click the Begin Test button.

    In the USA, there is a Government site setup to verify the Internet speed claims of broadband providers. You can go there and they will measure the speed your ISP actually allows: The National Broadband Plan: Connecting America
